Thunderbird standout Luc Bruchet put last weekend's disappointing result at the NAIA Championships behind him this Saturday, as he competed at the ASGI Canadian Cross Country Championships, in Guelph, Ontario. The few centimetres of snow that had fallen overnight onto the dry course did nothing to deter him. He lead the Junior Men's field from the gun and held that spot for much of the race, until University of Guelph first-year Ross Proudfoot made a move around the fourth mile and opened a gap he would hold on until the finish, winning in a time of 24:27. Still, Bruchet hung on to finish runner-up over the 8-km course, in 24:37, and lead Team BC to second-place in the provincial team competition, and UBC to fifth in the club team competition. "A lot better than I've been running the rest of the season," responded Bruchet when asked how the race went. First-year Thunderbird Justin Kent, also running for Team BC and UBC, finished 27th and just ducked under the 26-minute mark in 25:57. Fellow T-Birds scoring for the UBC team were Tim Huebsch and Nick Thomas, 37th and 111th respectively. UBC was also represented in the Junior Women's race, as second-year Maggie Woodward placed 40th.
